Maureen was born at Alcoota in 1976 then later moved to Engawala when she was a young girl along with her families. She grew up around Engawala and Utopia.
When she moved to Utopia that’s when she learnt to paint same time as her younger sister Dianne just by watching other family members. She started doing her own artworks and sold them to Tim that collects artworks for the Mbantua Aboriginal Art Gallery in Alice Springs. She does acrylic on canvas, wood carving, clay and pottery. Maureen’s artwork themes are her dreaming Ruby Salt Bush also known as Ntjaminya in our local language, Bush Medicine, Bush Tucker and Women’s Body Painting.
Maureen started studying Visual Arts at the Batchelor Institute in December 2022 to gain more art skills and techniques for her passion. She wants to complete Certificate 3 and hopefully pass on what she learnt to others at the local community Art Centre and the school where she works. She has artworks on sale at the Engawala Art Centre, some artworks are sold at the Northern Territory markets and also Engawala Art Centre website.
